Unwashed

We don’t know how to let go
to move on anymore
we don’t know how to let go
to heal or leave it behind
we just hold on
hold on too tight
we use the loss to keep us up at night
to grant us power and make us seem
like we deserve attention and things
we don’t know how to let go
four years later we bring it up now
won’t move on anymore
we keep standing at the door
waiting using and feeling the loss
we don’t let go we’re all unwashed

What we’ve lost

Pastel colors plastic cars
everything a work of art
the world we dream in
the world we sought
a world on fire
true love forgot
plastic covers metal doors
thirsty for what is more
more than plastic
more than this
dreams of worlds less ignorant
in plastic hearts we find no love
just simple pleasures
no one above
everything a work of art
no trying here just what’s forgot

The hero in you

Everybody wants to be a hero
but no one wants to feel the fear
everybody wants to be a hero
but can’t be helped to hear
everybody wants a bad guy
we love a madman or so we think
everybody wants to change them
give them love and make them see
everybody wants the challenge
but don’t want it challenging
they don’t want to work too hard
and they never want to lose a thing
everybody wants the courage
be brave and save the scene
but nobody got the common sense
to see how very different
it really is to be the thing
that you say you want to be
it’s not that you can and don’t know
it’s that you’re a coward and let it show
wants can come and feelings go
but not everybody’s a hero that we know
gotta go through fear to learn to scream
gotta brave the darkness to be free
gotta keep repeating and doing it again
because if everybody was a hero
we would see that heroes save the day
while everybody watches
nobody wants the debt or to pay the cost
everybody’s a hero when nothing can be lost

Twist the heart

Twist the myths
rewrite the rhymes
we all forget
just a matter of time
falling into what might have been
a time when we were better kept
twist the memories so young
rewrite the victories already won
and take back what you once gave up
twist it all and break the bones
no logic left
just feel the purpose
everyone can shed a tear
never true feeling just lending an ear
and so we twist and churn our hearts
don’t remember being torn apart

Empty apartment

She talked of many things
her heart was filled with love
and everybody loves this girl
loved her ever so much,
but no one could see behind
the lips that formed a smile
never looked her in the eyes
the eyes that held this child
every bit of darkness
she left out for display
she talked about many things
things you never heard her say
her heart was filled with sadness
she tried to cure it with love
never felt the return
even though
she heard it all the time
and when she said goodbye
you missed her you even cried
thought she might be dead
but didn’t care enough.

Describe the loss

Nobody mourns here
we celebrate the death
we do not feel sad
no we go to the carnival
to de-stress
words they matter see
so do not say the thing
we don’t feel sad
we sing
we worked so hard
and the burdens gone
we hold out our hands
and just get lost
in all the freedom
of the carnival rides
our loved ones dead
but we survived
burdenless or time
to thrive?

thread the nightmare

Take a needle
that’s what they’ll say
at the end
when it’s all grey
the sky on fire
they dug her grave
open the mouth
grow insane
lips of an angel
come what may
broken thread
as bedtime comes
the needle pokes
the eye for fun
a child’s innocence
comes undone.

Nasty thing

All the trauma overcome
my battles won
but here’s the fun
true fear comes from
knowing love
owning something
you won’t give up
willingness to feel happy
safety is a nasty thing
comfortable and so it seems
until you dream the dying dream
fear of your own mortality
creeps upon your shoulders stay
yet you still remember the days
days when death would have been
so sweet
but knowing love has made you weak
fear the end and losing sleep
all because you have the dream.
