jewelry box

Sitting in my jewelry box
cannot think
can’t get the top off
music doesn’t play no more
the gears they do not turn the cords
the jewelry is lost
the wooden panels all but burnt
sitting in my jewelry box
the world it fails to turn
spin like once it did so bright
golden box it filled with light
sitting in this darkness now
the glitters lost my soul still bound

The man

Surrounded by my golden visage
I contemplate what I’ve been missing
how much further I could have gone
if this will make another hit song
would it be louder if I was a man
would I be prouder to be who I am
would I feel better
have myself together
have more money in my bank account
fill the museum with visitors now
sitting amongst all I own
I think being a man would make me whole
that maybe I’d feel better and bold
get more than I have ever known
what more could I have
I don’t know
but if I was a man I would
know just what more I could
and as I sit with all my wealth
I contemplate the loss I’ve felt

Token

Broken
so often token
lost in a sea of gold
I’ve been on both sides darling
but I don’t think that you know
I got my lace dress on
and I got that heart that shines
you think I’m made from nothing
you got tears in your eyes
I’ve been out in the dust cloud
I’ve weathered plenty of storms
here in your garden honey
I know my worth is torn
I’ve been the token body
poor girl that’s given more
I got lost in the diamonds
thought I could make the grade
but when you cut the cards baby
I’m the one that don’t get play
broken so often token
lost in that sea of gold
oh man my number’s spoken
you got the worth I don’t

Blood diamonds

Blood diamonds on the water
in the veins and in the fodder
everything feels tasty good
the kind of thing misunderstood
the taste so sticky sweet in sin
the kind of thing you don’t let in
the kind of craving that kills the buzz
the open ended kind of love
blood diamonds kiss the sky tonight
off the ground the world so bright
as you eat the tasty right
the kind of drink you thought you chewed
blood and gold they drain your youth

Sirens

We see the sirens coming
hear their songs through clouds
the pain that keeps on leaking
the drums too loud for sound
no music to accompany
no one’s hand to hold
the sirens they are coming
showing all for all to know
to see what’s deep within them
hear their words directly from soul
we see the sirens coming
angels in gold silk
beautiful and glowing
the grace of life giving milk
we see the women coming
the sirens we all covet
hear their songs through clouds
the sky that spit them out
falling like the stars
the sirens trap our mouths

Take me back

Take me back to that time again
the time when it wasn’t decadence
dressed in trash and laced with sin
dancing in the straight ignorance
take me back to a time before
before we all fell on the floor
too drunk to pray and too damn bored
drunk off what we lost once more
gave it up like we knew better
drift like stars in darkness forever
take me back where I can see the sun
I don’t like this I want where I come from
take me back to a place like home
a time when all that glitters ain’t gold
where darkness is because of light
where angels sing instead of fight
take me back before we fell
a place that doesn’t feel like hell
