The unopened eye

One more head roll
eyes cold we know
everything is empty still
we do so much
just to pay the bills
one more stiff drink
the alcohol
it breaks the beat
I don’t know
much more to say
the starting of
the minds decay
one more tide
to call a stray
the symptoms of
the laughing rain
one more night to cry
the blood comes from
the unopened eye.

Drank too much

Take the glass
throw the house
drink your home
before you drown
everything is going down
everything is burning now
drop the beat and bleed the blood
take the veins wear the mud
take the oil from the heart
the drink you suffer now departs
everything within that glass
you drank too much and then
you cried
delude the drink with turpentine

How we can recover

The myth of moderation
is not a myth at all,
it’s a method of recovery
but not a one for all.
AA is a program,
filled with lots of faults
it may help some people
but it’s not a guaranteed stop.
Getting into rehab
works sometimes-it’s true,
but there are some people
this method just won’t get to.
Therapy can be effective,
therapy can be a cure,
but some people just don’t like it,
they feel this method is absurd.
Harm reductions great
truly one of my faves
but even with this method
you may not be saved.
Moderation is a method
just like so many things-
a method to living,
breathing what you seek.
The myth of moderation
is not a myth at all,
just like AA
this method has its faults
some may find recovery
others find more drugs
in the end it’s discovery
of just what side you’re on.

Red wine

Light on the wine glass
burning the red
heating the liquid
that’s gone to your head
making you crazy
tears in your eyes
you’ve drunken the light
and now you’ve lost
your mind
light on the wine glass
tears in your eyes
take another sip
and keep asking why.

Lady on the cliff

She waits in white
upon a cliff
sounds of waves
crashing under it
hair as black as
heart is dead
her lover gone
and liver spent
she waits for him
but it is said
the one she loves
did not cross oceans
